DESERTED from William Retter, conductor of a party of men engaged in the nine month service belonging to the Continental army in their march from the county of Worcester to Fish kill at landlord Scotts in Palmer, on the evening of the 5th instant, a negro man belonging to said party, from the town of Licester, known by the name of Sambo, about five feet five inches high, well set, between 20 and 30 years of age, talks very broken English; had on an old Straw Hat, a dark coloured old Surtout and Leather Breeches, has lost the joint of one Thumb. Whoever will take up said negro, and send him to Gen. Warner, at Fish kill, or confine him in any public goal, and give information of the same, shall have a handsome reward, and necessary charges paid by me WILLIAM RITTER. Palmer July 14, 1778.
