DESERTED from Continental service, [John] Lawton of Woodstock, returned to me legally draughted for the army until the 1st day of Jan. next, was properly warned to join the army, and refused to obey said warning and absented he was taken and delivered to Capt. Webb a Continental officer to forward to the army after which he made his escape and is supposed to be in Woodstock, or some place adjacent. Whoever will take up said deserter and deliver him to be at Windham shall have 4 dollars reward and necessary charges, by JOHN RIPLEY. Recruitng officer for the 5th brigade. Hartford July 16 1778.
