DESERTED from […] first of instant September, from Capt. Abijah Savage's company Col. Sherburne's regiment, a soldier named Samuel Smith, belonging to Middletown, in Connecticut; he is about five feet six inches high, of a dark complexion, blakc short hair, dark coloured eyes, is a well set fellow, about thirty two years of age: had on when he went away a short striped woolen waistcoat with sleves a pair of linnen breeches, a felt hat, but it is supposed he will change his cloaths. Whoever will take up said deserter and return him to the regiment or confine him in any goal and give notice thereof so that he may be brough to justice, shall have as a reward five dollars, and all necessary charges paid, by ABIJAH SAVAGE. September 17, 1777.
