Escaped from his keepers at the house of the widow Tharp, in North Haven, on the night of the 13th instant, a Negro fellow named Pomp, lately belonging to James Barker, Esq; of Branford, but now enlisted in Col. Meigs's regiment; who, on the 11th instant, wilfully and barbarously murdered the Negro servant of the late Col. Douglass, at the house of Samuel Hitchcock, innholder in North-Haven. The said Negro is six feet high, about 30 years of age, has large eyes, and is well spoken, had on his regimentals when he made his escape, viz. black coat, white vest and overhalls; it is supposed he is gone for the camp, but may be lurking somewhere in the country. Whoever will take up said Negro, and secure him that he may be brought to justice, shall be liberally rewarded by me, HANNAH DOUGLASS. Northford, May 15, 1781.
